Due South Restaurant Presents Southern Fare with Flair

It’s southern-style eating with a Myrtle Beach flair.

Due South at 72nd, the new restaurant at the Grande Cayman Resort in Myrtle Beach, is now open. With a renovated dining room, eclectic menu, and fun-loaded happy hour, it’s sure to become a hit on The Strip.

Even the cocktails have a southern touch – a perfect accompaniment to the menu, which is loaded with traditional Low Country taste instilled throughout.

With a daily happy hour (4-6 p.m.) with half-price drink specials and a $5 appetizer menu, Due South at 72nd presents a terrific new option for lunch, dinner, and drinks – right on-site at the Grande Cayman.

Come hungry and ready for fun. Due South’s incredible menu isn’t shy about portions, with offerings that leave you thinking ‘oo, that sounds so good!’ as you face the difficult decision of what to pick.

A New Look

The 2020 rendition of Due South at 72nd replaces the former Martin’s restaurant. On the site of a European eatery in the mid-2020s, Due South has a new, modern look, and all the panache of a restaurant that knows its fare is one-of-a-kind. Also, the vibe is more inviting and family-friendly than the past establishment says Due South manager Brock Ridgeway.

“The atmosphere is more relaxing and fits the overall theme and targeted clientele of the resort,” Ridgeway said. “I feel this will bring more business not only from the resort guests itself but neighboring properties and locals as well.”

Due South features an extensive open-feel bar, brick walls, and nautical touches. Ocean-inspire decor and modern art blend perfectly and represent well the fusion style on the menu – Southern cooking with a touch of Carolina coast.

The square footage is the same, but Ridgeway says Due South just feels bigger.

“Opening the entryway, relocating the bar to the opposite side of the restaurant, and removing the old sectioned-off bar area really enlarged the space and makes it more functional and inviting when there’s a lot of people trying to check in after 4:00 pm,” Ridgeway said.

Due South for lunch

Hope you had a light breakfast.

The Due South lunch menu can induce a terrific afternoon nap – and if it’s possible to smile while sleeping, this lineup of deliciousness will do it. Start big with a Good OL’ Boy Onion Ring Tower, a scrumptious stack of handmade, tempura-style onion rings with a spicy Cajun ranch dressing. Pick a trio of small sandwiches with Momma’s Meatloaf Sliders, served with french fries. (You’ll find Momma’s Meatloaf on the dinner menu, too.) Or try Chicken and Waffle Sliders, featuring a sweet, savory glaze you’re sure to love.

We recommend a heap of tastiness (you’ll want help with this pre-lunch monster) – Pulled Pork Nachos. South meets south of the border, converging on a heap of nachos with jack and cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, jalapenos – with a pulled pork, barbecue sauce, and sour cream topper.

Due South for Happy Hour

We’re grateful for iffy math skills, especially when they interpret happy hour as 4 hours of joy.

Pick your favorite domestic beer on draft or well drink – they’re both at half off. For a fiver, you have enough for one of five belly-pleasing appetizers, including homemade chips, pimento-stuffed pretzels, or classic fries.

Save room for dinner, as preposterous as that might sound.

Due South for dinner

Along with amazing appetizers on the lunch menu, Due South goes full-on southerner with Fried Green Tomatoes, served with a delectable pimento cheese sauce. A happy-hour favorite, the Pimento Cheese Pretzel Knots, melds two southern favorites into one marvelous snack. There’s nothing small about the Jumbo Crab and Shrimp Cocktail, with cocktail sauce and homemade dijon sauce.

The sandwich-and-salad portion of the menu begins and ends with a signature plate – the Git-R-Done. Big-time southern with big-time taste, it’s a hoagie roll gang tackled by a mess of homemade macaroni and cheese and delightful pulled bork barbecue.

Not expecting fish tacos in a joint like this? Think twice, my friend. Blackened Mahi Tacos steal some of that southern thunder, and rightfully so. Simple and spectacular, this pleasing plate comes in warm taco shells, with lettuce, cheese, and a side of salsa and tortilla chips.

Stay spicy with a Rock Shrimp PO Boy. That’s a grand sandwich loaded with Florida rock shrimp, lightly fried, with a memorable sriracha tartar sauce. (And your curiosity might get the best of you when you see the PB&J Burger on the menu. It’s just as advertised.)

Along with standard favorites such as Grilled Chicken Caesar and Southern Cobb salads, Due South is proud to present another signature dish – Big Britches Burger. It comes with a side of fries, but we’re betting you might not finish those. Why? This burger really is too big for its britches, made of a short rib and beef blend with cheese, lettuce, and tomato, on a beer stout bun. (And you can add pimento cheese, because why not?)

We haven’t even gotten to Due’s Mac & Cheese. It’s a homemade meal unto itself, and you can choose two elevated additions, such as shrimp, sausage, skirt steak, and a handful more of options you wouldn’t dream of adding to mac & cheese – until now.

Full yet? Wait until you see dinner and dessert.

What’s a southern restaurant without grits on the menu? These are destined to become the best you’ve ever had. Of all places, you’ll find them – with Gouda cheese, no less – under grilled or blackened Southern Grouper. (Also, served with Low Country Shrimp, this time with celery, onion, and Tasso ham.)

Ridgeway says the Low Country Shrimp – his favorite – is “out of this world.”

“It really brings that traditional coastal South Carolina feel to the dinner table, “Ridgeway says. “It’s a staple that should be at any southern-style restaurant and they knock it out of the park.”

Traditional favorites with a Due South twist include Billy’s Bowed Up Ribs, Palmetto Pasta Alfredo, Charleston Crab Cakes, and NC Scallop Shish Kabobs.

Finally dessert. A short but stellar menu includes Beignets, a Sharable Cookie (seriously, enough to treat the whole table), and Lemon Raspberry Cheesecake.
