As you pull up to the Market Common entrance, you will notice a tribute to the United States Air Force, including some of the service branch’s old fliers on display. What was once the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base is now a tucked-away village with some of the area’s best shopping, restaurants, free family events and relaxing places to saunter. With ample parking available, it’s easy for visitors to experience some casual, quality shopping in the quaint community setting. Notice the colorful flowers flowing from planters as you meander down the sidewalks from store to store.
Take your time and get some shopping done at nationally known stores and some shops with local flair. Purchase the sunglasses that were forgotten at home, and find a beautiful scarf to wear, a cozy gown to sleep in, or perhaps some local spices and dips. You and your family will find that the choices are nearly limitless, and you should be able to discover that something special.
While shopping, there is no reason for the Southern summer temperatures to get the best of you. Take the time to have a treat and cool down. Stop by Cobblestone Creamery for an ice cream extravaganza. Mix all your favorite flavors and top it off with a cluster of goodies. This may also be a good time to chill out in Market Common’s state-of-the-art movie theatre and enjoy the latest blockbuster film.
As the sun begins to set and the night comes to life, you will notice the tranquil glow of the streetlights to guide you to one of 11 restaurants to satisfy your hunger pangs. Craving pizza? Try Ultimate California Pizza for the most unique combination of toppings or traditional favorites. Pamper yourself at Crepe Creation Café for a one-of-a-kind dining experience. Visit P.F. Chang’s for some Asian cuisine or Co Sushi for that special taste. Appease your thirst with a frozen concoction while enjoying quesadillas at Nacho Hippo. There are many selections available to conquer your hunger and dehydration.
It’s not all shopping and restaurants at Market Common. It also has an impressive baseball/softball complex that hosts many national and local tournaments. Playgrounds, ponds with fountains, and large, grassy areas for picnics are scattered throughout for your pleasure. It is a charming community that would love to have you stop by.
If you happen to be visiting near the birthday of our nation, here are some events planned around the Fourth of July. Market Common likes to give back to the families and locals who frequent the neighborhood. Nothing says America like family, community and shared moments. Catch a free movie at Valor Park on Friday, July 1. Bring your blankets, snacks, drinks, lawn chairs, family and friends to lay back in the grass to watch Goonies, an ‘80s treasure. On Saturday, July 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., visit the Farmer’s Market for locally grown vegetables and fruits, homemade jellies, jams, handcrafted wares, and baked goods. On Tuesday, July 5, relax and enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride that will tour you around the scenic atmosphere from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
