5 Ways to Celebrate Father’s Day in Myrtle Beach

Isn’t it cool when Father’s Day and the first day of summer happen on the same weekend?

What says summer fun and Father’s Day better than a getaway to Myrtle Beach? We’ve stayed the course and stayed healthy for weeks. We’ve done what’s been asked for the greater good, and there’s light finally emerging. It’s probably the sunshine coming from the Carolina coast!

The best thing about a Father’s Day escape to Myrtle Beach is that the whole family gets in on the fun. Sure, the weekend is about papa, but the fun is for everyone.

Here are 5 ways to celebrate that big guy in your life in Myrtle Beach. But first, did you know …

The origins of Father’s Day

It’s a worldwide holiday to recognize what fathers (and father figures) mean to their kids. Around the world, it’s celebrated on various days, but many nations set aside the third Sunday in June for Father’s Day.

Sonora Smart Dodd, a young woman in Spokane, Wash., first thought of a day for dads. The idea came to her while she listened to a Mother’s Day sermon in church. That was in May 1909. For generations, children have honored their dads with gifts and time spent with him.

1. Hit the golf links with dad

Whether dad is a stroke or two behind Dustin Johnson or he loses a box of golf balls on the front 9, he probably enjoys a day out on the links. Did you know golf gives a player a moderately intense experience, by walking, carrying the bag, and swinging the clubs? It’s good for the heart, the brain, and just getting out in the Myrtle Beach air for a beautiful challenge. Consider booking a tee time for dad at one of these spots:

Arrowhead Country Club

Plush fairways, fast greens, and incredible views. The pro shop will make dad feel right at home. He’ll love the awesome layout, right along the intercoastal. [BOOK TEE TIME]

Caledonia Golf & Fish Club

The pace of play at Calendonia is customarily laid-back, perfect for dad’s weekend. It’s a beautiful course with attentive staff for pops. [BOOK TEE TIME]

Tidewater Plantation

What an awesome place to play, especially early in the season. Tidewater’s appeal is that it’s a gorgeous challenge. Dad will love the multi-leveled greens. [BOOK TEE TIME]

2. Level the playing field with papa with minigolf

So maybe an 8-year-old doesn’t have the long game of a grown man. That’s where minigolf – also known as crazy golf, goofy golf, and shorties – puts them both on equal ground. Also, Myrtle Beach is a haven for these tiny versions of big-boy courses. It’s a fun way for the kids and mom to play dad’s game – with dinosaurs, pirates, and bright yellow golf balls. Did you know there’s also a pro tour for putt-putt? Believe it! Try these spots out:

Capt Hook’s Adventure Golf

Clean and cool, and mom can even buy dad a beer here! Capt Hook’s has 2 courses, one is stroller-friendly. Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, and fun challenges await. [LEARN MORE]

Jurassic Mini Golf

Which is more awesome, the ice age or predator course? You decide. 99% of all dads love dinosaurs, right? Close to the beach and easy to play. [LEARN MORE]

Mt. Atlanticus Minotaur Golf

The cool thing is, even preschoolers can get in on the fun at this tiki-themed course. Try the cave path. The staff is friendly, and the No. 19 hole MUST be experienced. [LEARN MORE]

3. Get out and play

No matter what age children are, they can benefit from playing with dad at the beach. Whether it’s with their first pail and shovel on the seashore or tossing around a football in the surf, quality time with dad is a wonderful thing. Little kids learn to make sense of the world around them through play; older kids have a chance to reconnect with dad when they can get out and have fun with him without another care in the world. Try these things out:

Sand fun

Burying your dad in the sand is a rite of passage. Let your creativity shine with a sprawling sandcastle (with a moat, of course) or another sand sculpture. Don’t forget the sunscreen!

Disc golf

It’s the other golf in town. Have fun at Socastee Recreational Park, Tupelo Bay disc golf course near Surfside and Garden City, or Coastal Carolina disc golf course in Conway.

Fly a kite

The sea breeze is perfect kite-flying. Unless you’re a pro, try a simple delta kite. You need just 5-15 mph winds to get these airborne and soaring over the coast. Check out Klig’s Kites.

4. I ‘sea’ you, dad

jetskiing

There’s a case that pops would be happy just casting a fishing line into a Myrtle Beach lake or river, or off a pier. Maybe he’s got an adventurous side, perfect for a rented jet ski. Perhaps he’s always wanted to challenge a red drum out on the open sea. Did you know ocean air accelerates your ability to absorb oxygen and balance serotonin levels? Yep, being at the ocean can improve mood and lower stress levels.

Fishing on the pier

Take dad to 2nd Ave Fishing Pier for a great chance at making a catch. At Cherry Grove Fishing Pier, you can bring your gear or rent it. Surfside Pier is just south, too.

Jet skis

Rent a jet ski with a guide for beginners at Myrtle Beach Watersports. Make some memories with Island Adventure Watersports. Downwind Sails is also a great spot for rentals.

Fishing charters

Hit red drum and more with Myrtle Beach Guide Service. Ride with an expert captain with Carey On Charters. See dolphins while you’re fishing with Low Country Fishing Charters.

5. Cook dinner for dad in the condo

Hitting balls onto a scenic fairway or through prehistoric beasts is tons of fun. So is frolicking in the surf with the kids, or zipping around on a jet ski. But few things tell the big guy he’s a big deal like a meal cooked just for him. Myrtle Beach has plenty of places you can rent an efficiency condo complete with a kitchen to work your magic – while dad enjoys a cold beverage on the balcony.
