5 High-Flying Reasons to Visit Myrtle Beach

For some vacationers, one of the best ways to elevate a getaway is to literally take it to new heights — whether that means climbing to the area’s tallest point, hopping aboard its loftiest thrill ride or actually taking flight high into the skies. And with a number of popular attractions that make it easy to increase your altitude, the Grand Strand can certainly accommodate.

Consider these five leading ways to really get your Myrtle Beach area vacation off the ground and take in a bird’s eye view of one of the East Coast’s leading vacation destinations:

Helicopter Adventures

At Helicopter Adventures, found at Myrtle Beach shopping/dining/entertainment hot spot Broadway at the Beach, guests can choose from a wide array of chopper flights high above the Grand Strand. The seven tour options on tap here range from the Fly 4 Fun Ride, a 2-mile flight over the Broadway at the Beach area, to the Grand Adventure, a 40-plus-mile round trip that takes passengers over a large swath of the Myrtle Beach area and its beautiful beaches.

The Slingshot

Found at Free Fall Thrill Park on North Ocean Boulevard, the Slingshot sends riders rocketing into the skies at speeds of 100-plus miles per hour to heights of over 300 feet. Other thrill rides in the park that are sure to get the adrenaline pumping include the Air Strike, the Sun Dance and the Screaming Swing.

SkyWheel Myrtle Beach

Taking passengers to heights of up to 200 feet above the Atlantic Ocean below, SkyWheel Myrtle Beach is a signature part of the downtown Myrtle Beach skyline — and a perfect way for vacationers to get a bird’s eye view of the local coastline. The attraction offers 42 fully enclosed, climate-controlled gondolas that provide breathtaking rides up to the attraction’s 20-story peak. And while a typical ride takes passengers for four full revolutions, the VIP Flight doubles that to eight full revolutions, and the Rise & Fly Sunrise Flight pairs a 30-minute ride to watch the sun rise over the Atlantic Ocean with coffee and pastries.

Parasailing

At Downwind Sails Watersports, which has a location about 6.5 miles south of Grande Cayman Resort at 410 South Ocean Boulevard, adventure-seekers can soar 400 feet above the Atlantic Ocean waters as they take in the Myrtle Beach skyline and high-altitude seascapes during a parasail ride behind a speeding ski boat. Other activities available through the vendor include banana boat rides, jet ski rentals, sailboat rentals and rides, kayak rentals and stand-up paddleboard rentals.

Rooftop Restaurants & Bars

Those who enjoy meals with a sky-high view are in for a long list of treats on the Grand Strand. Just a few of the restaurants and bars offering rooftop dining and/or drinks in the Myrtle Beach area include Tin Roof, RipTydz, Soho South, Snooky’s, Banditos and Gulfstream Cafe.
