Myrtle Beach is full of excitement. You can parasail, jump on a jet ski, or take a spin on the Skywheel if that’s more your speed. That’s not to mention special weekends for groups that draw visitors from all around, in cars, trucks, RVs, and on motorcycles.

You know, you can also come to Myrtle Beach … and unwind.

For all the thrills in Myrtle Beach, there is an equally tranquil activity available to you. We’ve put together this list of ways you can loosen up and leave the hustle and bustle behind (It’ll wait.) Slow down. Decompress. Ease into a relaxing visit next time you’re here.

Why is it important to relax?

Relaxation has its health benefits. When you take it easy, it boosts your blood flow. Increased blood flow gives us an energy boost. When you sit back, you have a calmer, clearer mind. A clearer mind leads to better concentration and memory, decision making, and positive thinking. Adjusting to a slower pace – even for just a weekend in Myrtle Beach – our blood pressure decreases, heart rates slow, and tension is relieved. Breathe! It’s good for you.

Ways to relax on your Myrtle Beach vacation

At the resort

Soak up the sun

A beach blanket, a cool drink, sunscreen, and maybe a little music is all you need. At Brittain Resorts, you often have easy access to beautiful Myrtle Beach. And you can find plenty of space to chill onsite, with water features for the kids. You’re on beach time now.

Read your favorite book on the beach

What better way to escape than with a stellar beach read. Some pro tips: If it’s a hardback, leave the dust jacket behind. Pack a second book (and maybe a third) in case you finish one. Sunglasses are a smart touch, as is an extra bag for your books (and not beach toys.)

Float in the lazy river

Chillax on cruise control in Myrtle Beach. Brittain Resorts have plenty of options to coast on the water and leave your cares behind. For newbies: A lazy river is a shallow pool in a serpentine shape with a gentle flow of water, like a river. Grab a float and go with the flow.

Enjoy coffee on the balcony as the sun rises

So many Brittain Resorts feature unique ocean views. Check the sunrise time first for Myrtle Beach. That’s the moment the sun’s top edge appears on the horizon. First light will appear 30 minutes before. Even if you normally wake up before dawn, take this chance to actually enjoy it!

Take an evening stroll along the beach at dusk

How romantic – especially hand in hand. Or even a solo walk, where you can soak up the solitude of the moment. Turn off your mobile phone (unless you want a selfie in the setting sunlight) and watch how the last sunrays illuminate everything in Myrtle Beach.

Activities:

Head to Brookgreen Gardens

Brookgreen Gardens is the elixir for the flashy side of Myrtle Beach. This amazing Murrells Inlet destination is an oasis of art and natural beauty. Take your time getting through, and don’t feel pressed to see everything. Have a leisurely lunch in the cafe on the grounds.

Visit one of the state parks

Myrtle Beach State Park

SO many ways to destress at Myrtle Beach State Park. Take an ice cream cone out on the fishing pier. Peruse the nature center with the kids. Go on a hunt for sharks’ teeth in the sand and surf. It’s a great place to catch a sunrise – or a sunset.

Huntington Beach State Park

There are so much fauna and wildlife to see at Huntington Beach State Park. Tour Atalaya, a National Historic Landmark, and former winter home of philanthropist Archie Huntington and sculptor Anna Hyatt. Take a walk on the 3-mile beach and enjoy the sound of the waves.

Dining:

Enjoy a glass of wine from Duplin Winery

The Deluxe Wine Tasting gives you the chance to sample 10 of this historic winery’s wares, with gourmet crackers and cheese. (And you get to keep the glass.) Their Muscadine wines are famous, everywhere. Bring home a bottle of your favorite and revisit the tranquility at home.

Have dinner at a waterfront location

Lots of great choices here, including a wonderful seafood restaurant right on the ocean: Pier 14 Restaurant & Lounge. Sea Captain’s House in the Caribbean Resort & Villas is another favorite. Fliet’s Waterfront is a renowned steakhouse on the Intercoastal Waterway.
