Vacation season should never end.
Just because the days are shorter, it doesn’t mean the dreams of getting away go away. If anything, they’re more pronounced! Thoughts of the cooler air but warm sun in Myrtle Beach are sure to get your imagination running.
As if you needed them: Here are 10 reasons you should take that fall vacation on the Grand Strand.
1. Special Events
Myrtle Beach hosts so many fall festivals that have become a tradition for the off-season traveler. One such: Brew at the Zoo, at Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet. Tickets include beer tasting and entertainment, including The Paul Grimshaw Band performing, Nov. 6.
Don’t miss Dashing Through the Glow on Nov. 19 at North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex. This 2-mile fun run and walk is the kickoff to The Great Christmas Light Show. You could win prizes for your holiday-themed attire. Visit in November to experience Taste of the Town and the Mythical and Medieval Fest.
2. Getaways Are Never Out of Season
An escape from everyday life should include relaxation, fun, and stress-free living. We could use that year-round, couldn’t we? Self-care is critical, even more so in cooler months with shorter days.
3. The Crowds Are Smaller
To many, the buzz of an active Myrtle Beach in the summer is a big draw. Now that school’s back, people have less flexibility to spend lots of time at the beach. This means a bigger dose of tranquility and access in the offseason.
4. Lots of Fun on the Cooler Shore
There’s more space for having a catch or building a sandcastle — maybe even a massive one — on a fall trip. Midday runs on the beach isn’t so sweltering, and neither is a lunch picnic. Release your inner artist with a sketchbook or easel out on the sand.
5. It’s Great for Quality Time With a Friend or Significant Other
6. Take a Hike (Or Test Your Game Skills)
Venture to Myrtle Beach State Park. The Sculptured Oak and Yaupon trails offer serene paths directly to the beach for those seasonable fall days. Bring a book to get lost in and an empty agenda for a bit of self-care. Take photos to make all your Instagram followers jealous.
Go old-school with a visit to the Myrtle Beach Pinball Museum, and spend an afternoon gunning for high scores on games you loved back in the day.
7. Save Money
Especially after Labor Day, price changes go into effect. Some restaurants and entertainment venues offer discounts in the offseason. Look for deals in coupon books at your resort.
8. The Weather Is Sublime
Fall weather makes for ideal conditions on the Grand Strand. Room rates are low, and highs are still in the mid-70s. The ocean is even still in the low 70s, which makes for a pleasant day for fun in the sun without scorching heat.
9. The Scenery
Beaches are beautiful any time of year. But there’s something about taking a moonlit walk on the beach or taking SkyWheel for a scenic view. Fall is ideal for a day at Brookgreen Gardens, without the sun bearing down on you. Visit the Downtown Conway riverwalk, for shops, restaurants, and a Saturday farmer’s market.
10. Coastal Carolina Football
It’s not just your favorite spectator sport in your favorite vacation spot. It’s high-caliber football for a nationally recognized program. Coastal Carolina football features a festive game-day experience and an awesome schedule.
The Chanticleers will host these games this fall:
- Oct. 28 (7:30): Troy
- Nov. 13 (TBD): Georgia State
- Nov. 20 (TBD): Texas State
