We’ve found 10 must-try appetizers on the Grand Strand, but we know there are plenty more!
For fries to get top billing among choices at Art’s, ahead of Firecracker Shrimp and Ahi Tuna Bites, says something. Fries at Art Burger Sushi Bar are house-cut, and come with avocado ranch. Also on the fries: Bacon, cheddar cheese sauce, roasted garlic salsa, and scallions.
Open with something stellar at 21 Main, a seafood and steakhouse at North Beach Resort & Villas. The Calamari Fritti includes cilantro, pickled peppers, tarragon aioli and sweet chili aioli. The Beef Carpaccio is also excellent.
You get big plates of downhome food at Big Mike’s Soul Food, but the appetizers are too tempting to pass up. Don’t wait until New Year’s to try the Collard Green Dip, a homecooked gem on the Grand Strand. You might not find a better meal on your trip.
Amid the hustle and bustle at this busy eatery, you’ll find a simple yet elegant appetizer. The Croissants at Carolina Roadhouse are buttery, flaky, and delicious. You get a basket of five, which makes for an interesting negotiation for a party of four.
Why settle for a small plate of frozen sticks, when you can get them like this at Hurricanes Daiquiri Bar & Grill? This opener gets made with the same care an attention as burgers and sandwiches. Enjoy with boardwalk seating and beautiful ocean views.
It’s another state’s specialty, but the sauce used at Aspen Grille makes it all South Carolina’s. It’s a simple recipe, of lump crab meat and fresh lemon, but the house-made remoulade elevates it. Aspen Grille is a classy, colorful, and refined place to have dinner.
Building to the top has never been so delicious. The seafood tower includes crab legs, lobster tail, mussels, oysters in shell, and shrimp cocktail. Hook & Barrel is a local seafood joint that also has a terrific happy hour and wonderful Sunday brunch.
The award-winning soup at Sea Captains House gets is own rave reviews online. It’s rich, creamy, and the best on the Grand Strand – and you won’t find a better bowl in Charleston, the unofficial home of She Crab Soup. Sea Captains House is Caribbean Resort’s own traditional seafood favorite.
This knockout chili is house-made, with brown ale, marinated steak, and black-eyed peas. Soups of the day at Bisqit include Chicken Noodle and New England Clam Chowder. Sit at the patio for a Grand Strand comfort meal you’ll love in Pawleys Island.
For common appetizers, it’s often an ingredient or two that makes one unique. Bovines’s Spinach and Artichoke Dip has pepperjack cheese, which adds that delicious touch. Bovines is famous for distinctive dining with a view on the Marsh Walk.
